Building Effective Schools Today via Learners' Improvement and Growth in Achievements and Outcomes

         The 2008 In-Service Training (INSET) for Ligao City Division was set October
27-31, 2008, Sem  Break, as stipulated in DepED Calendar SY 2008-2009, utilizing
the semestral break for the in-service training of teachers and school heads. Held in
3 venues, Ligao East Central School – Elementary English and Character
Education/Guidance/Evaluation, Ligao West Central School (B) – Elem. Filipino and
Grade I teachers and Ligao National High School, all subject areas, secondary level,
3 days October 27-29 was set for professional growth and enhancement of teachers
and school heads while October 30-31 for the selection of athletes in preparation for
the 2009 Bicol Athletic Meet.
    In a promotional staff meeting held by the acting Schools Division Superintendent,
Officer-in-Charge, Dr. Gilbert T. Sasad, before INSET was set, he emphasized the
learners, need for quality instruction evidenced by the poor result of the last year’s
National Achievement Test (NAT). He requested the education supervisors and
coordinators to address this need by retooling/enhancing teachers’ capabilities in the
delivery of instruction.
    Training designs were planned and aimed at enhancing teachers’ competence in
teaching the different learning areas; upgrading their ability on lesson planning, test
construction, performance assessment, content and strategies, all for the
improvement of performance level of learners. Sessions were facilitated by Education
supervisors, coordinators and selected teachers.
     The Acting Schools Division Superintendent attended the closure ceremony in
these three venues where he spelled out the challenge that everybody faces, in
raising the performance level of the learners.
