DIVISION TO ADOPT PROJECT ADEPT
|

The urgent need to improve learning outcomes in the Division of Ligao City has
borne the conceptualization of Project ADEPT (Advocacy for Delivering Education via
Peer Tutors) by the School Division Superintendent, Diosdado M. San Antonio. This
will be launched Summer 2008.
In one of his meetings with the Promotional Staff, he emphasized that the low
mastery level attained by the learners in regional and national achievement test is a
situation that calls for a large scale intervention for better learning outcomes.
In his discussion of interventions, he shared that one of the proven approaches in
improving learning outcomes in schools is the institution of a peer tutoring program,
thus this project ADEPT, which he had conceptualized in collaboration with the
Education Supervisors. With this program, both the tutors and the tutees are
benefited. He proposes that the fast learners be trained as partners of their teachers
in assisting their fellow pupils/students who are struggling.
The proposed project aims to improve the proficiency levels of the learners in the
core learning areas at the end of school year 2008 – 1009, specifically the following:
1) enrich the knowledge, skills and attitudes of 204 fast learners (Grades III-V and
1st- 3rd year HS) in the core learning areas – English, Science, Math, Filipino and
Araling Panlipunan/HEKASI; 2) hone the tutoring, interpersonal and leadership skills
of these fast learners; 3) enable the fast learners to support their classmates in
addressing learning difficulties; 4) determine the impact of instituting a peer-tutoring
program in the schools. aor
